Chito is on an absolute tear, showing the fine tuning of Jason Parillo extends beyond his other pupil Mackenzie Dern. The RVCA camp has a lot to be happy about, usually when you see the numbers that Rob Font put on Chito you would think it was a terrible fight, but the proof is in the pudding and also Font’s face. Not to mention the three knockdowns that secured the victory for Marlon. With now two violent outings that went the distance and the knockout of Frankie Edgar under his belt Chito is sure to be within the top five in ranking of the UFC’s bantamweight division (my favorite).
Rob Font unfortunately ends up on the wrong end of the beat down where he was landing his jab but that’s about it. Font did impress me with his victory over Cody Garbrandt, this win is starting to lose its luster which in turn does the same for Font. After being beat by the future hall of famer Jose Aldo, Chito was supposed to be a return to form that hit a snag during the weigh ins where Font missed by two and a half pounds. What I love to always say is in a game of inches, what do you think that means for pounds?
And you could see the weigh in difference between the two, Marlon “Chito” Vera was all smiles on the scale, bonafide confidence beaming out. While Font looked like he had just missed weight. Something that he has never done before. Defeated in a smaller sense. Leading up to the fight the odds were in Rob Font’s favor just so slightly, if I were able to bet, after seeing that weight in, I would have put a lot of money on Chito.
Font is now 1-2 in main event slots. As for what is next maybe some time off and not a main event fight might be dope and the best answer for the funk that Font finds himself in. One thing for sure is that he needs to figure out the weight issue. He is now 34 and I am sure it’s only going to get harder from here so that has to be addressed ASAP. Because at the top we see what not having a good weight cut can cause. Exhibit A, this fight.
For Chito the sky’s the limit. He now has won he first main event and is on a three fight win streak. His prize? Nothing but fucking straight killers. Yan, Sandhagen, Dominick and Merab. And yeah I know the Sean rematch is there but we can still hold of on it. Let’s let that marinate for a bit, trust me the wait will be worth the wait. What I would like to see is a rematch between Marlon and Song Yadong. Chito was convincingly robbed that decision. Even by verdict standards. So the opportunity to right that wrong while getting some reps in would be a good step in the right direction that leads to a future Championship.
As for the rest of the card I didn’t get to watch it, I will though. Promise. Oh yeah, the other parts bit. What the fuck is up with Conor fans still? Like where does the delusion end? Guy has one win in five years not in his weight class against a weaker opponent in Donald Cerrone (no offense). Are we still thinking that he is going to be champion that far removed?
I get it Conor sells, no problem with that. Shit, I don’t even care that people are trying to defend the guys after all that he is done, that’s between them and their therapist to discuss. I am more upset about the fact that people are stupid enough to think that Conor somehow wins after not doing a single thing to change his game plan. Still at the same gym, surrounded by much of the same people, doing the same boxing things. Insert that one quote about madness or some shit. My point is your boy is trash, at least for right now. Hopefully he gets his shit together, because when Conor is performing well in the UFC everyone is a winner, and that is facts.
